Livagen 10 mg research-grade lyophilized peptide powder in a glass vial. Livagen is a synthetic short peptide bioregulator investigated in experimental models for its potential role in supporting chromatin structure, DNA repair mechanisms and cellular stress-response pathways, particularly in rapidly dividing tissues.

Research Overview

Livagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide bioregulator (Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala). In experimental models it is used to study chromatin structure, gene-expression regulation, DNA-repair mechanisms and cellular stress responses in ageing and immune-cell systems, without implying any therapeutic use.

• Chromatin & gene-expression regulation: models examining heterochromatin decondensation and activation of ribosomal genes in ageing cells [1].
• DNA repair & cellular stress response: assays of repair capacity and stress-adaptive signalling [2,3].
• Immune-cell ageing models: studies of lymphocyte function and age-related immune decline [1,2].
• Liver cells in old rats: in cultured liver cells from rats aged 1 to 24 months, Livagen raised the rate of protein synthesis, with the biggest effect in cells from the oldest animals. The related peptide Epitalon did nothing here. This is a dish of cells, not a treated animal [4].
• It picks its tissue: of four related peptides tested on rat tissue fragments, Livagen was the one that made liver explants grow, while the others acted on brain or thymus. So its target looks like the liver rather than the whole body. The report is two sentences long [5].
• Digestion in old rats: gut enzymes do not break Livagen down, so it survives being swallowed. Two weeks of it by mouth pushed digestive enzyme activity in old rats back towards the levels seen in young controls, while in young rats the same enzymes fell instead [6].
• The body’s own painkillers: in human serum Livagen blocked the enzymes that destroy enkephalins, the body’s own opioids, and did so more strongly than standard inhibitors, with half-maximal effect near 20 micromolar. It did not bind opioid receptors itself. This was a test tube, not a person [7].
• Cells from people with atherosclerosis: white blood cells taken from patients aged over 80 with atherosclerosis carried far more chromosome damage than healthy controls, and adding Livagen brought those readings back towards normal in both age groups. The cells were treated in a dish; nobody was given the peptide [8].
