Selank 10 mg research-grade lyophilized peptide powder in a glass vial. Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of tuftsin studied in anxiety-like behaviour, stress-response, cognitive and neuroimmune research models.

Research Overview

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin. In experimental systems it is used to explore neuropeptide signaling, anxiety-like behaviour, stress reactivity and interactions between the nervous and immune systems.

Primary Research Areas

• Anxiety & stress-response models: used in anxiolytic-like paradigms assessing behavioural responses and stress-induced changes in neurochemistry [1,5].
• Cognitive & memory research: studies of learning, memory consolidation and attention under baseline and stress conditions [1,3].
• Neuroimmune & inflammatory signaling: models investigating cytokine profiles, immune modulation and brain–immune crosstalk [2].
• Neurotransmitter & neurotrophic pathways: experimental work on monoamine balance, BDNF expression and synaptic plasticity markers [3].
• Coming off opioids: rats made dependent on morphine and then given naloxone showed 39.6% less withdrawal overall after a single 0.3 mg/kg injection of Selank, with fewer convulsions and a nine-fold higher touch-pain threshold; diazepam at 2 mg/kg did somewhat more (49.3%). One model, one dose, rats [4].
• Taken together with a benzodiazepine: in rats under unpredictable chronic mild stress, Selank and diazepam given together held anxiety measures at their pre-stress values, and the combination worked better than either drug alone. Selank and benzodiazepines act on the same system, so the result describes a drug interaction rather than an additive effect [5].
• A brief drop in blood pressure: in anaesthetised cats an intravenous dose (reported as 300 mg/kg) lowered arterial pressure by 32 ± 4.3% for the first one to three minutes, with no change in heart rate or breathing. A short, self-correcting dip at a very large dose, and the only cardiovascular measurement on record for this peptide [6].
• The liver under long stress: male rats given Selank 15 minutes before each restraint-stress session had less malondialdehyde, a marker of oxidative damage, and higher total antioxidant activity in liver tissue at 100 and 300 µg/kg. At 1000 µg/kg the liver enzymes leaking into the blood fell as well [7].
• The gut wall under long stress: rats held immobilised repeatedly developed atrophy, inflammation and mast-cell changes in the wall of the colon alongside raised corticosterone; Selank at 80, 250 or 750 µg/kg before each session lowered corticosterone and reduced those changes. The colon was examined under a microscope, not by how the animal felt [8].
